Mini, iMac and MacBook Pro & Mac Pro updated
Written by Chris Tangora
So I was wrong. The Mac Mini was updated with a 5 USB port version. The same one that went around in videos and pictures and packaging. I'm not as disappointed as I thought I would be. I wish that it was smaller in size and had two firewire ports, but overall it doesn't look like to bad of a bump for the Mini. Added in to this round of updates is also an iMac update and an update to the Mac Pro line. Apple is also now selling a wired keyboard without the numberpad and has increased the max CPU speed of the 15" MacBook Pro.The new Mac Mini comes in at $599 for a 120GB Hard Drive and 1GB of RAM. The $799 version comes with a 320 GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM. Both come with a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and the RAM clocks in at 1066 MHz. What makes this Mini update stand out is the NVIDIA graphics card and the environmental aspects.
The new Mini brings with it the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, the same chips found in the new MacBooks. The impressive part is the 13W energy usage while idle. According to Apple that is 45% less than the previous version. Added in is the BVR and PVC free internals and this turns out to be a very green machine.
The Mac Pro now comes with the Nehalem processors and the iMacs have had a major bump with three 24 inch models now available.

I was secretly hoping for another mini DVI port! If the laptops can support a dual desktop why can't the mini.
Powered USB hub = $5
Dual Head 2 Go = Way to much

I'm thoroughly shocked that Apple included 5 USB ports (as many as the Mac Pro!!) and a FireWire 800 port (after dropping FireWire altogether from the MacBook) -- and no explanation of why! I thought for sure that they'd announce that the new Mac mini would replace or supplement the Apple TV line, or at least that Apple would start marketing the Mac mini more toward the same market.
