Yet another use for the VHS |

 We showed you the VHS tape to USB hub mod over the weekend (link here). So what do you do with the VCR now that all your tapes are USB hubs? Make the VCR your computer of course!
Shoe16 at techpowerup.com took his VCR, stripped it and stuffed it with a motherboard and AMD processor. The ports are the funniest part of it, they are accessible through the tape slot. There aren't alot of pictures with this one, really only the one of the case open and then one of the ports (which is fuzzy), but I thought it went well with the VHS USB hub. It would be really funny to have an entire computer system made up of old VCR parts.

 Case Modder and furniture maker Nick Falzone (GreenSabath) is rather new to case mods, he has four successful mods under his belt. His first three mods have a heavy Japanese influence to them, but his last case mod caught my eye because it isn't along the same lines as his first few, but has it's own beauty in it's details.
The "Three Evils" case mod is based around a comic theme, and was prepared for the ModShop Comic Con 2008 (a mod based on a comic). Nick went through and cut out detailed etchings, spray painted lettering, and hid the excess wires in a custom made housing. This is a great simple mod, but has really high detail work in the cutting. It's definitely worth a look. You won't find it on his site, but you can stop by his site to see more detailed pictures of two of his Japanese based mods.

 So what do you do when everyone has an R2-D2 mod? Change yours to the R2-M5 model of course. User "The Great Satan", (I didn't pick the name, don't blame me) noticed that there were more and more R2-M5 units all over the web. To make his a little more unique he decided to change his unit to the red clad R2-D5 (a rebel R2 astromech droid).
While it is in question who made the first R2-D2 mod out there (we reported on another R2-D2 model posted to the web in 2005, link here ), I think it is safe to say that this is the first R2-M5 computer mod. R2-M5 also has a few upgrades from the "The Great's" previous R2-D2 mod, sporting a temperature sensor, BluRay Drive, memory card reader and more RAM.

Everyone was all about the BlueRay and HD-DVD "war" early in the year, but does anybody remember the good old days of the Beta vs. VHS wars? Man those were good times. You can relive them every day if you want, show you recognize your history by turning that old VHS (or Beta) tape into a LED illuminated USB hub.
Harry M over at instructables.com has the how-to to turn a video tape into a glowing USB hub. If you work in the video field this one would be a really cool thing to have on your desk. If you do it, send us some pix.

 The psycho iPhone has been spreading around the internet for the past few days, and it is an impressive iPhone mod. Exclusive to iphoneclub.nl are detailed pictures and comments about the process.
It all started with a Dremel (doesn't it always?), from there he goes through the details of adding the illuminated Apple logo, picking the shade of paint for the cover, the mirrored front panel cover and the sand blasting logo. It's all covered at iphoneclub.nl, so go over and take a look.
