Ever wanted an ipod with a longer battery life, better sound quality and a zippier user interface? I know I have and so did tarkan from tarkan.info. That is why he decided to open up his 5G iPod and outfit it with a compact flash drive. The hardest part of this project is undoubtedly preparing the conversion board for the ide interface. Nonetheless, the final product is great.

Leave it up to Phillip to be the first to laser etch the iPhone. I swear that is their favorite toy over there at Make. Nonetheless, those good ole guys over at Make have gone and laser etched an iPhone with those flying toasters from the After Dark screensavers back in the day... remember those? Be sure to check the link for a video of the etching in action.

Duct Tape Server Mod... huh? |

Yea, we had the same thought when we heard the word duct-tape and server in the same sentence. However, I have to hand it to these guys, they created a half decent server enclosure for very cheap. Despite their statistics on their website, I have to question the cooling abilities of the enclosure. After all, duct-tape is a pretty good insulator. This just furthers the saying, "if you can't duct it...."

Not too long ago we ran a story on a very original steampunk keyboard mod. Well, the keyboard is awesome but what about the rest of the computer? Obviously the guys at steampunkworkshop.com need to continue the theme. Their next turn is the LCD--a Dell 19" Flat Panel Monitor. A little bit of stripping, brass and assorted fixtures later, you have something right out of a steampunk thriller novel.
Check it out...

Owen McGarry's iTop, iPod mod, might not be one of the most elegant looking mods we have seen to the iPod, but it may be one of the most functional mods, at least for people who leave their ipod lying on a desk. Owen had a .mac site with more info on the mod, but it was pulled for bandwidth abuse. Note to Owen... That is why MacMod.com exists, to prevent this! Anyway, you can have a look at some of the pics on his facebook album here.

OK, this might be the coolest software mod I have seen in a very long time. Apparently the motion sensor in the Macbook Pro's, intended for HD preservation on dropage, can be modded for use with whatever you like. But, in this case, being used for Virtual Desktops. Be sure to check out the link; full guide and video included.
