Boot up your Mac from iPod
Written by Jacob Head
Wednesday, 16 May 2007
ipod_disk_mode.jpgPlaylist Magazine suggests using an iPod as a backup bootable disk for your Mac. To do this, you need to set your iPod to run in disk mode, and then install OS X on it using the original installation disks. If you're willing to fork some money for extra bootable iPod features, Protogo ($135) can boot several versions of OS X from your iPod, as well as add various utilities. If you've already got a bootable disk, like DiskWarrior, free Dasboot can also do it.

Raid your MacBook
Written by Jacob Head
Monday, 30 April 2007

echeng070426_110497.jpgThis mod is a little obvious... simply take out your optical drive and double your hard drive space. XBench results show a fair increase in many tasks, although a decrease in some small-block reads, and of course a hit in battery life as well. Other caveats include his keyboard no longer fitting quite right and an increase in noise coming from the second drive, but all-in-all Eric seems happy with the experience, and says the systems seems more “snappy."

Macpack

macpac.jpgWhat have you done with your old original Macintosh? There is, of course, the legendary Macquarium... but how about something different? Something truly unique? Something painful on your back? That's exactly what Mac modder imanalchemest wanted. This clever person turned their Mac SE into a (somewhat) fully functional backpack. Yes, a little blocky and most certainly uncomfortable but we have to give the person props for originality. See the Macpack and all it's spinal glory at instructables.com.
