Why Amit Bhawani is still an idiot. |

So our old buddy Amit Bhawani is at it again. We gave him some site traffic for his stellar review of the MacBook/OS X as it was a truly moving piece. If you could read all the way through it you would either be laughing your ass off or fuming mad. But now he's kinda made me mad.
Let me start of by saying, I don't' get mad easy. I've lived on a tropical island for a few years and ever since I've been pretty laid back. But now Amit has posted an article with my name in it saying that I am posting "fake news", with "macmod-chris-tangora-wrong report" in the URl. Specifically about the article where I commented about Google blocking MacMall Accessories search result . If you are interested in how I feel about Amit and how he is a fake read on. If not, thank you and have a good day.

Why Amit Bhawani is an idiot. |

So there will always be Mac haters, that's just a fact. As much as we wish everyone would move on over to the Church of Mac, there will always be the people who just try slamming Apple's software and hardware whenever they can. It becomes unfortunate when the slammers start spewing out complete and total nonsense, and for the most part I tend to just ignore them. As much flawed logic as they have, I generally say a Mac blessing for them, "Please let the light of Steve shine down on them", and call it a night. But not for Amit Bhawani.
I don't know why this guy bugged me so much, but his 12 point blog entry on why he thinks the Mac sucks (the MacBook specifically) and Windows Rocks is so lame I had to respond. Maybe it's because I use a MacBook and love it, or maybe it's his flawed logic, whatever it is, here are the highlights from his blog entry "Why Apple Macbook Sucks Windows Rocks".

HybRed lacks finished touches |

There is a a PC mod running around the internet that seems to be getting a lot of comparisons to the iMac. It goes by the name HybRed, and is supposed to be a PC all-in-one. The modder, Ville 'Willek' Kyrö, got his motivation from an iMac, but that is where it ended. Gizmodo's review made it sound like this was a bad-ass machine that blows the iMac out of the water. For me, it looks a little bit to unfinished and tacky to be compared to an iMac.
While it does house the display and motherboard in the same enclosure, the style is nothing like that of an iMac. And yes, it might be the "ultimate" all-in-one gaming console, but if you have to sacrifice looks for it, well ... I'd prefer the looks. The power supply has it's own 120mm fan and has large metal gauge enclosures for binding the wires together between the power supply and the case (and the case to itself?). There's enough LED lights on this thing to keep a small room illuminated and the cut-out sides of the case seem a little bit over-done. The craftsmanship seems like it is high quality, to me it just seems in poor taste. Maybe it's me, but I'll take an iMac over the HybRed any day.

Recent news has that Intel is not going to upgrade their current Windows operating system from XP to Vista. Not a big deal up front, as there are plenty of government and private businesses doing the same. What caught my attention was the REMOTE possibility of having Intel go Mac. Imagine if the 80,000 seat client went from Windows to Mac. It might not mean much to Intel, but it would be a huge blow to Microsoft and an even bigger win for Apple.
There's no verified source that this would happen, but it could. Apple runs Intel chips now, even if Intel went to a Windows operating system, what if they bought all Apple machines?
The possibility is there. That's all it is right now, just a possibility. But that is far more than Apple had 5 years ago.

Multi-Touch device at WWDC |

WWDC is around the corner. Everyone is making prediction based on "inside" information. I don't have any. But I'm wiling to say they're wrong, except for Shaw Wu. Yes the 3G iPhone will debut. But that's not the story, it's a smoke screen. There's something more that almost everyone is overlooking, and it's big. Apple has been rumored to have built a fake, full-scale Apple store on a Warner Brother's lot to film something for the WWDC keynote. With over 180 retail stores and the Boston store just opening, Apple
surely could have filmed in one of their stores. So why the super
secrecy?

Father's day is approaching fast, next thing you know you'll be making that phone call or going over for the BBQ. Now's the time to finalize your presents for him before you are stuck getting him a tie he won't wear or worse. If your dad is a techie dad, it'll be even harder. But don't fear, I've searched the web and found some cool gadgets for the gadgety dad.

10 cool mods to check out |

Devicedaily.com has 10 of the coolest case mods they could find. We've seen some before (the R2-D2 mod ) and some are new (a Halloween pumpkin mod ). The Dial-Up telephone mod is pretty cool, originally the idea was to use it as a skype phone for a grandma. Wood case, rotary dial, I love it!
The car fanatic's Dashboard mod uses a real Honda Civic's dashboard to show the RAM, CPU and HD usage. It also has a remote control for turning on and off as well as ejecting the optical drive. The Microwave PC is done well, but the toilet I don't get. It looks like it came from a gas station next to a burrito shop.

Stetampunks gaining street credit |

The steampunk movement has been going on for a few years now, but I never realized how much. We've seen a few computer mods, a few clothing lines and custom made cars and appliances that all follow the same steampunk look. But now major media is starting to spread the word about steampunk, even the New York Times has had a feature article.
Creativepro.com recently wrote an article about the steampunk phenomenon (I guess it is one, since so many people are doing it). While it has been around since the late 80's it is defenitely becoming more and more popular today. We have tmordasky's macmod challenge winning entry that has a heavy jules verne/steampunk feel, and the wedding day steampunk MacMini. The part that got me the most about steampunking was from Mr. James in the Times article, "It goes back to a time when people had some dignity".
What steampunk mods or creations have you found on the web?
