Popular Science has a cool "mod", a simple digital sticky pad. No more clutter of notes and throwing them away when done. The rig cost between $100 and $175, depending if you go with the recommended Parallax Micro-Controller or the Parallax Propeller (user suggestion).
If you are remodeling your kitchen or your workspace, this would be a cool mod to have around. I can see something like this going into games in the near future.

Breakdown of a Time Capsule |
|
Friday, 07 March 2008 |
Our friends over at TechRestore just posted a breakdown / take-apart of the Apple Time Capsule. If you are planning on tweaking one of them or just want to take a look at the insides, swing over there and take a look. it doesn't go into great detail about the Time Capsule, but it is done with stop motion photography. The good part is that the video is alot higher quality then what you usually see on youtube. I wish that they would have had pauses on some more interesting parts though.

Have some old rainbowed Apple products laying around? We know you do. The cases of the old school products are great for moding because they are so sturdy. Take a look at this mod of an old school Apple floppy drive. It now serves as the new housing for the computer's amp. In my opinion it looks better than the original amp.
This one goes to 11.

The right way to fix your keyboard |
|
Tuesday, 04 March 2008 |
We've all had those days or nights. Working late, coming early, more coffee in your body than blood. Then it happens. Your arms swipes across the desk and the coffee is now infused with the keyboard. "oh shoot" is usually the first response.
Luckily user bgracey has had this happen before and was kind enough to do some documentation on how to repair/clean/dissasemble/reassemble an Appe Pro Keyboard. While there are a few different variieties of Apple keyboards, he covers the basics very well, and offers links to similiar articles for the older Apple USB keyboards and USB mice. So if you have a java powered night, read through these instructions so you know what to do after you say "oh shoot".

Simple iPod Projector, but who's the girl? |
|
Monday, 03 March 2008 |
User Tanntraad made simple iPod proejctor worth taking a look at. The idea is simple, take an image from the iPod and reflect it toward a lens that will blow it up. He used an old projector's lens for it, but you could play around and maybe find a more powerful projection system. He didn't post to many specs, but if someone knows more about these kinds of optics, please post.
But more important, who is this girl? She's the first example on his third instruction page, here . She has a Mac sticker strapped across her. It seems like it would be some kind of promotion or something. Anybody know anything about her?

Build your own energy sensor |
|
Tuesday, 26 February 2008 |
Ever wonder how much it is costing you to run your Mac? Or your fridge, or fan, or A/C? You can always buy one of the wattage meters we've seen around, but that wouldn't be any fun now would it.
Instead, head on over to http://www.enerjar.net/ and get the DIY instructions to build your own energy reader. This would be a really cool addition to a mod. You would also see how much it is costing you to read this, download music, surf, blog, etc.
Build your own awareness.

Make your iPhone your mouse |
|
Friday, 22 February 2008 |
Here's yet another good use of your iPhone. A student at Carnigie Mellon School of Computer Science has hacked VNsea to allow your iPhone to act as your iMouse. By tweaking an installer and putting a copy of VNC on your Mac (or PC) you can use your iPhone to navigate your computer.
The iPhone can click, double click, drag and even scroll. Very cool. If you are planning a mod that a wired mouse would not work well with, this could be a great solution.

FSTEDIE at ipodhackers.net posted an iPod mod worth taking a look at. By converting his iPod to CF he was able to squeeze a bluetooth module into the stock iPod. He then tweaked the iPod with a clear front so you could see the blue light coming from the Buetooth adapter.
Very Cool!
Go Blue.
