Opensource Multi-Touch demoed on Mac |

Multi-Touch is coming more and more mainstream everyday. The MacBook Pro's have it now, and it looks like with the help of Christian Moore and the team at NUI Group soon anyone can develop for it. They have put together a framework (Lux) available to all platforms that allows for all the fun eye-candy multi-touch that you see from Microsoft's Surface or Jeff Han's Magic Wall.
The demo is done in Flash because it was the fastest and easiest way to prototype, but has C++ programs running for all the background work. While Christian recognizes that the Apple multi-touch has an advantage because it is run at the core level, this opensource alternative is welcomed by all.

Rich Willis' .Mac page has a pretty cool mod you'll want to take a look at. It is based around a MacMini and an old cube case. It took him over two days to cut the holes for the casing, as it would crack or melt if pushed any faster. The really interesting part is the virtual keyboard he shows. It looks like a laser generated keyboard, but unfortunately he doesn't go into any details on it. After looking at it closely I think it is just for display.
Looking closer at Rich's website you'll see his also a cancer survivor (cancer of the butt, which he has quite a few butt jokes if you are up for a laugh). He is also building a custom motorcycle. Take a look at his site if you have some time, he's got other interesting stuff as well.

The application Forklift is your go to app for FTP transfers. Or renaming files, or removing applications, or just about anything to do with a file or transferring files. It's available for a 33% discount today only from MacZot.com. If you don't have a favorite FTP client yet, or you are getting tired of the one you do have, give ForkLift a look. I did and found that it now one of the must haves in my tool box.
MacZot.com offers good to great discounts 6 days a week to shareware and other Mac software developers that often go unnoticed. While most deals are okay or the applications are so-so, Forklift is definitely one of the apps you'll want to check out. It's reduced from $29.95 to $19.95 today only at MacZot.com. Get a free download with a 15 day trial to see if you like it or not (but the deal is for today only).

Leopard on the OQO, sneak peak at WWDC? |

There is a YouTube video (short very poorly) of an OQO running OS X Leopard. It's a basic video, very bad focusing and poor choice of lighting. But the interesting part of it is that it is Leopard running on a mini PC, almost tablet like PC.
The rumor mills are turning at full speed now, iPhone updates in May or June 9th, Intel Atom in the iTablet, now wait now there is no iTablet, now nobody said anything about an iTablet it was all just "hypothetical". However it pans out, you can take a look at this YouTube video and see what it would be like to work with a full OS X install on a tablet like device.

So we've seen iPhones with diamonds, gold MacBook Air's, but now the MacBook gets it's turn. For only $6700 (£3,500) you can get a Munk Bogballe MacBook. Aside from the 4GB of RAM and Windows XP pre-installed it is a basic MacBook. What cost the money is the exterior mods.
Munk Bogballe adds anodized aluminum surface, aniline European leather underside & carrying bag, and Microsoft Office. The one good thing about the extremely high price is that for every order an additional XO laptop is given to the One Laptop Per Child organization.
For me, it's a little bit to much for a MacBook.

The steampunk movement has been going on for a few years now, but I never realized how much. We've seen a few computer mods, a few clothing lines and custom made cars and appliances that all follow the same steampunk look. But now major media is starting to spread the word about steampunk, even the New York Times has had a feature article.
Creativepro.com recently wrote an article about the steampunk phenomenon (I guess it is one, since so many people are doing it). While it has been around since the late 80's it is defenitely becoming more and more popular today. We have tmordasky's macmod challenge winning entry that has a heavy jules verne/steampunk feel, and the wedding day steampunk MacMini. The part that got me the most about steampunking was from Mr. James in the Times article, "It goes back to a time when people had some dignity".
What steampunk mods or creations have you found on the web?
