Boot up your Mac from iPod
Featured Mods
Wednesday, 16 May 2007
ipod_disk_mode.jpgPlaylist Magazine suggests using an iPod as a backup bootable disk for your Mac. To do this, you need to set your iPod to run in disk mode, and then install OS X on it using the original installation disks. If you're willing to fork some money for extra bootable iPod features, Protogo ($135) can boot several versions of OS X from your iPod, as well as add various utilities. Apple Reporter holds Mac modding contest
Other
Tuesday, 15 May 2007

From the press release: "Apple Reporter is having our first contest! If you are like myself and my friends, you have not left your MacBook, iMac, MacBook Pro or Mac Mini nekkid. You have given it a new look that is more “you” by applying skinz, paint, tattoos, decals, plastic covers and more. Apple Reporter wants to see your mods!

Once all the custom designs and skinz are on I’ll post a picture of my newly personalized laptop here. Meanwhile, take a look at one example from Flickr. I don’t know who this person is, but they did a fantastic job modding their Mac:

MacFusion: a GUI for MacFUSE
Press
Tuesday, 15 May 2007

macfusion.jpgMacFUSE is a very cool utility that brings the Linux FUSE project to the Mac for easily expanding file system support. MacFUSE is a rather advanced project that requires some command line chops to get things going. This is where MacFusion plays a role. As a GUI front-end for MacFUSE that puts easy access to MacFUSE network mounts in your menubar. It's still early in development but it will already "show a Secure Shell or Secure FTP share from another computer on your macs desktop, letting you manipulate the files on it as if they were on your own computer. MacFusion can also do the same for any File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server, giving read/write FTP in the finder for the first time!"
