Podcast v2

patent-mock.jpgSome recently rumblings around the net have pointed back to a patent Apple filed in January of 2007 that points to a new delivery system for a new kind of podcast.  In the patent Apple is outlining a way to have a custom podcast sent to you and your mobile devices.  This is just a patent though, it does not mean that Apple is going forward with any kind of development of it.  Nor have we heard of any other rumors about this coming out any time soon.

From the patent application :

"The invention pertains to the generation, management and delivery of personalized media items for users. Users are able to influence or control content within a media item being personalized. In one embodiment, personalized media items are podcasts."

Summed up it looks like the podcast would be made up of bits and pieces of other pod casts.  If you were interested in say organic food, the new podcast would go out and search for podcasts that had something to do with organic food.  It would then get only the part of that podcast that dealt with organic food and combine that part with parts from other podcasts that deal with the same thing (organic food).  So you would now have your custom podcast, made out of the contents of a dozen other podcasts.

Cool concept, now let's wait for WWDC to see if it gets mentioned.

Custom PodCast patent broken down by ZDNet.
