 Okay, so we all know the Star Wars story. Both Anakin and Luke get their arms shopped off by a Sith Lord. They both then get these awesome prosthetics. A thing of a galaxy far far away? Not anymore. Our department of defense plans to have Star Wars like prosthetics by 2009.
The amazing technology is being brought to us by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Never heard of them? Dude, take a look. They are the military's high-risk, high-pay off technology group. Scanning through their website probably put me on some homeland security list, but it is pretty cool to see how our tax dollars are being spent (the Crusher is a hybrid manless vehicle, capable of carrying 8,000 lbs without impeading it's mobility).
