Engadget did a XBench test on the new MacBook Pros, and the results are worth taking a look at. Mainly for my interest in how the Penryn chip performed overall. One test they ran before the XBench was a heat test. While the XBench scores show improvement in the performance, their absolute & relative heat test (CPU temp & touch) are more interesting.
The Penryn chip running at 2.5 GHz got up to 173º on the chip, while the 2.2 GHz got up to 195º. The fans were going pretty fast on the 2.2 Ghz MBP, while on the Penryn the fan speeds were about 1/3 slower. The Penryn MBP was touchable on the bottom, while the 2.2 GHz MBP was hot to the touch.
