Newton Mac Virus Resurfaces
Thursday, 06 March 2008
newton-virus.pngRemember the Newton Virus for the Mac?  I didn't, never heard of it until just the other day, but now I want it.  Yes, that's right.  I want that virus.  It's a Mac virus, that well, really isn't a virus.  It wasn't meant to steal your data, or propogate itself to other machines.  It was meant as a practical joke or as the creaters say, a reason for a coffee break.  The virus is only spread by direct contact.  You have to have the USB key and plug it into a Mac.  That's it.  Then virus is set.  Remove the key and walk away and be prepared to laugh.

The virus will be on display at the MOMA in New York from now until May 12th, 2008 with the Design and the Elastic mind exhibition.  Go by and take a look at the virus and their guerilla projector.  Troika Art & Design seem to be a really cool company with great ideas, I'd love to see more of their stuff & the other items on display.

The Mac's Best Virus Ever

I don't doubt the possibility that an application that simulates gravity might exist, especially considering that Mac laptops have an accelerometer. The thing that makes me skeptical is that they claim you can just plug in a USB key and then pull it out after about a second and the Mac will then be infected. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't any kind of application autorun-on-insertion functionality in Mac OS X. Nor does it look like the developer released the application to the public so people can try it out. I'm thinking this (at least the part about the automatic instant installation) is a hoax and a publicity stunt.

There is an ext. that will give your OS 9 items gravity. When they are selected and move they swing around like they are hinged.

But for OS X I don't think anybody has done anything yet. I wish they would release this code so you could just play with it whenever.

It looks so cool! Maybe someone will make one for the iPhone!

Where can I get this? I remember on mac os 9 there was some freeware that would cause your desktop icons to have gravity.
