Touch Screen iMac
Monday, 10 March 2008
imactouch.pngLooks like someone has beat Apple to the iMac touch.  Troll Touch products has a full line of Apple computers that they have modded to be touch screen machines.  From a few hundred to over one thousand dollars you can send them your current MacBook, iMac or even some of you legacy Mac products to get converted to touch screen machines.  Or you can buy the complete package from them and have a new touch enabled iMac delivered to you. They also take Apple Cinema Displays and third party LCD's and convert them as well if you are running a Mac Mini.

The video on their website is pretty cool to see, kinda like a glimpse of the future if Apple pursues the touch features for the desktop models.  Hopefully when the touch iMac comes out from Apple they will be a little less expensive than these.  I was kinda surprised that they didn't offer a discount when you buy the package from them.

Keep your hands to yourself.

I think Apple used to offer a touchscreen iMac a long time ago.

The same comment I have abut the iPhone and iPod touch, iSmudge. I hate finger prints on my screen.

The graphic design department at my college has an older iMac with an installed touchscreen. I'm not sure if my instructor sent it to the same place that you linked, but I know it's been around for at least a year.

This is a really nice thing to have, but unfortunately if the interface isn't designed for the size of a finger it just won't be very functional....as can be seen when the demo-er minimizes the system prefs instead of closing it.
