 Popular Science has a cool "mod", a simple digital sticky pad. No more clutter of notes and throwing them away when done. The rig cost between $100 and $175, depending if you go with the recommended Parallax Micro-Controller or the Parallax Propeller (user suggestion).
If you are remodeling your kitchen or your workspace, this would be a cool mod to have around. I can see something like this going into games in the near future.
