 From the same guy that brought you the Mac Mini CPU upgrade comes an upgrade for the professional users. This time he is beefing up his Mac Pro. And by beefing up I mean making it a bad ass mod'd Mac. He took his Dual Core Xeon Mac Pro and upgraded it to an 8-core processor that carries about 65 GigaFlops of power.
He goes over what to mask out on the CPU to get higher bus speeds, and what part needs to be removed when. The most impressive stat I saw was his use of handbrake. He achieved 103fps using about 30% CPU. Even with HVAC.264 encoding and 2 AAC audio tracks he still gets 50 fps and only uses 50% power. And speed, try a 90 minute movie done in 5 minutes.
