Apple is in the courts again, but this time they aren't the defendant.
Apple is suing the New York city non-profit group 'Green NYC' for their
use of an Apple logo. Apple says the logo looks to identical to
theirs, and it could lead to damaging the brand image that they have
spent hundreds of millions (if not billions) of dollars creating.
The image does have the basic outline of the Apple, Inc. logo, but that
is about where it ends. The Green NYC logo is empty on the inside
except for some ribbons crossing the center. It also has the small
stem poking out from the top at the same angle as the Apple, Inc. logo.
At first I didn't see it, then the graphic came up and I can see why
Apple would object. One thing to make clear here is that Apple is
suing more to set a standard, than an anti-Green philosophy. If Apple
lets this one go by, then it can be used in future court cases that
Apple let these people do something similar.
What do you think? Are the logos similar enough to warrant this suit?
