prod-sun-virtualbox.pngWhile VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop both do a great job, there is one draw back they both have, they cost money.  What is a person to do who is on a tight budget, but wants to have a virtual machine?  Answer, Sun's xVM VirtualBox.

Sun has developed a virtualization that it is dishing out for free, yes free.  It might not have all the bells and whistles of the paid versions, but you can't beat a free app.

I tried the previous version, and while it initially looked better than I expected, I soon ran into several errors when I didn't chase up since I was just exploring.

I have since tried this new Sun-endorsed version, but it either doesn't cleanly install over the old version or has problem of it's own. Again, I have Parallels, so I won't be spending much time trying to resolve the issues.

It works fine on a mac. I have been using this for about a year on linux, and just installed it on my macbook with leopard. It used to be owned my innotek. And about 4 months ago they sold to Sun.

Free? Sun knows how to speak my language. I'd love to read about others' experiences with this on a Mac.
