12 to 16 hours MacBook Air power

com-quickertec.pngOne of the biggest complaints about the MacBook Air when it was released was the non-removable battery (amongst other complaints about quality, firewire & USB ports).  Until today you were stuck with what Apple gave you, but no more.  Quicker Tec, Inc. has released the MacBook Air External Battery Charger to give MBA users an additional 6 to 10 hours of use.

Quicker Tec's strong point is wireless technology, but they have worked with MacBooks & MacBook Pro's to extended their battery lives.  Now they have an external battery charger that allows the MacBook Air to charge when not plugged into a wall socket.  There are no pictures of the device published yet, but it works like this.  You attach a modified magsafe adapter ($25 to mod yours or $100 for a new one) from the 5.5" x 5.5" x .6" battery charger to the MacBook Air.  The battery charger keeps the battery charged while it is in use, and uses the external charger as the battery until it is depleted.  Then the internal battery will take over.  Another benefit is the recharge time, the MBA's stock battery recharges in 4 hours.  Quicker Tec's MacBook Air External Battery Charger recharges the MacBook Air in 3 hours.

From the sounds of it this will be a must have if you have a Mac Book Air.  The additional $300 for the charger and $25 to $100 for the modified magsafe shouldn't be a big dent out of your pocket if you've already forked over the money for the MacBook Air.  The real question will be how well it will look next to the MacBook Air.

Make it look like a mini, or a thin pad that the MBA sits on, and I am sure it will be a hit. Add some USB/Firewire plugs to it, that interface with the existing USB plug, and I am sure it will be a big hit.

But by this point, its going to be as bulky as a MBP or a MB.
