Stetampunks gaining street credit

opin-steampunk-mouse.jpgThe steampunk movement has been going on for a few years now, but I never realized how much.  We've seen a few computer mods, a few clothing lines and custom made cars and appliances that all follow the same steampunk look.  But now major media is starting to spread the word about steampunk, even the New York Times has had a feature article.

Creativepro.com recently wrote an article about the steampunk phenomenon (I guess it is one, since so many people are doing it).  While it has been around since the late 80's it is defenitely becoming more and more popular today.  We have tmordasky's macmod challenge winning entry that has a heavy jules verne/steampunk feel, and the wedding day steampunk MacMini.  The part that got me the most about steampunking was from Mr. James in the Times article, "It goes back to a time when people had some dignity".

What steampunk mods or creations have you found on the web?

It's true. Steampunk is a wonderful new genre and since the time that I discovered it on the net last summer, I have been enthusiastically working in it for months.

Thanks to Sara Brumfield, Alex CF, Cory Doctorow @ BoingBoing, Datamancer, Jake Von Slatt and others for having the artistic vision to put this great new style forth.

It's not a computer mod, but I saw a steampunk motorcycle at the Maker Faire:
