Is Intel going Mac?

Recent news has that Intel is not going to upgrade their current Windows operating system from XP to Vista. Not a big deal up front, as there are plenty of government and private businesses doing the same. What caught my attention was the REMOTE possibility of having Intel go Mac. Imagine if the 80,000 seat client went from Windows to Mac. It might not mean much to Intel, but it would be a huge blow to Microsoft and an even bigger win for Apple.

There's no verified source that this would happen, but it could. Apple runs Intel chips now, even if Intel went to a Windows operating system, what if they bought all Apple machines?

The possibility is there. That's all it is right now, just a possibility. But that is far more than Apple had 5 years ago.

	Intel could easily switch. HP and Dell are even fearful of the crap that is vista. Go Intel pick a decent platform and move on! Guest

	Intel has announced a limited adopt of Vista, as new computers are brought in Vista will be loaded. If you research, this is exactly what they did with XP. As a matter of point XP was not adopt by most large corps until after SP2 some 2.5 years after original release. Guest

	It's not likely that Intel will go to a Mac. Lot's of engineering software won't run on a Mac. The software is more expensive than the computer. Guest

	The story said that the "win-tel" relationship was widely exagerated. I think that Intel and Microsoft both have the same mentality. They focus on what they do best (Intel = hardware, M$ = software). I can also see Intel re-writing their in-house applications to be Mac centered. And I definitely could see Intel buying Macs and putting Windows on it. Registered

	Also apple does this really smart thing, they use EFI. Not that stupid age old BIOS technology that almost every other manufacturer uses. Why boot your computer into 8 bit, then 16 bit, then 32 bit, then 64 bit?? EFI is a thing of the future and apple is winning in that sense. Registered

	I can't imagine Intel switching from Windows to Mac OS any time soon. Intel has too much invested in its relationship with Microsoft to risk ticking off the Redmond Behemoth, but more importantly, Intel's internal apps and licensed software are almost surely for Windows only. It doesn't necessarily make sense for Intel to replace every one of its PCs with Macs at the same time because that would be really expensive, but I wouldn't be surprised if Intel began buying Apple hardware for future purchases and running Windows on it. Then Apple and Microsoft would both benefit, and Intel wouldn't have to go through any of the inevitable growing pains of going through a major OS transition. Registered
