With the high heat of summer laptop owners are finding their Macs running even hotter than normal. One way to combat the high heat is to live in an isolated closet set to 69º or move to Alaska. For those of us who want to continue with our lives though, Hendrik Holtmann has a great free tool out there called smcFanControl.
smcFanControl works pretty darn good. It's a simple menu bar icon that can show temperatures and fan speeds, or just the icon. You can set up preferences for minimum fan speed for different power situations, and you can quickly change them on the fly. If you have a laptop and want a little bit more control without going overboard, smcFanControl is worth the download.
