How to make your G3 shiny on a budget.
This one is quite simple. Pick up a cold cathode neon and an inverter power supply from your local parts store. take off the side panel of your G3, not the door. You'll need an allen key to do this. Next, take the neon by itself out to the grinder. YOu'll need to know how to use a grinder well to do this. Measure how much space needs to be taken off the mounting blocks on either end of the neon. grind away at an angle until it can fit in the space between the metal and the plastic case. be careful not to grind into the tube, or you'll break the vaccume. It's better to not grind enough than too much, because if it squeeses outwards against the case it can help to keep it in position, if you grind down too much, you risk breaking the vacume inside the tube or making it loose and rattle around. Once you've done this, either glue or double sided sticky tape it to the metal on the side of the G3. MAKE SURE THE END WITH THE CABLE IS ON THE SIDE FACING THE FRONT OF THE MACHINE. Along the edge that connects to the front you'll see a group of rectangular spaces that clips the front panel to the metal. Punch one of the plastic clips out, so that the cable can be threaded though the gap. You may need to disconnect the teminal from inside the plugs so it can fit through, or is worse comes to wear, you'll need to cut the cable and soldier it back together on the other side. That is a last resort. Once you've done this, the rest is easy. Bolt the cover back on the side, and connect up the inverter and plug it into a free power cable. It's a good idea to use double sided sticky tape to stick the inverter to the metal casing that protects the buttons. I used two pieces of sticky velcro, so i can remove it again easily. Once you're done, You should get something like this:
