Nashville TN – Tuesday May 25th, 2004 – MacMod.com announced today the soft opening of their website. “We are tremendously excited to offer this to the Mac community” says Anthony King, co-founder of the site. “It’s been almost 3 years since MacMod went away and there’s still a huge need for modding content.” MacMod first came online in August 2001 and was an instant hit with users around the world. “It really brought people together, people wanted to customize their Macs but didn’t have a central resource to help them do so” says Jacob Thomason, who, with King, founded the site.

Traffic to the site grew almost exponentially over the few months following its 2001 debut. So much so, that MacMod’s host was forced to move the site to a higher bandwidth server. During the move, the site’s files and backup files were lost. The archive, which had grown to cover almost all mods available at the time, and an active forum were irretrievably lost.

At the time, with both founders working to put themselves through college at Mercer University in Georgia neither had the opportunity to revive the site. The two of them, however, never gave up on the idea of someday bringing the site back to life. Now in 2004, with time on their hands, they turned their attention to bringing back the site.

Both are glad to see their dream come back to life. “We’ve put a lot of time into making our vision for this [MacMod] a reality,” says King, “We wanted it to really fill that void for a modding community designed with Mac users in mind.”

The return of MacMod also highlights Apple® technology as well as the way it makes communication transparent and easy to use. “With me on the Gold Coast of Australia and Anthony in Nashville, Tennessee, most people thought we were crazy to tackle a project of this magnitude,’ but Thomason contends “Using our iSights and iChat we were able to set up daily 4-6 hour working sessions at no cost to us. Trying to do that kind of conferencing over a telephone would have been prohibitively expensive.”

Despite of the obstacles, MacMod’s founders brought together information and technology from all over the web to create a base for a community that they hope will be even more dynamic than it was before. “Last time MacMod blew past our expectations, this time we’re betting it will do it on an even larger scale,” says King.

The site is returning with even more features than before; a response to the growing needs of a modding community. Users will find:

• Community forum
• Relevant mod news
• Featured mods of the week
• An archive of mod guides with detailed instructions to follow along
• User uploadable gallery (Coming Soon)

The site will be a free service and is expected to appeal to the needs of Mac users around the world who want to customize and interact with their computer in a new, more personal way.
