You can find this mod in the MacMod archive or at  http://homepage.mac.com/tracer302/bluecube/PhotoAlbum21.html and was inspired by Kent Salas' Blue Ice G4 that took the mac modding community by storm a while back.  This mod adds some personality to the cube by creating a blue glow beneath the cube.  This mod can be performed in variations to many other models.

I got this cold cathod tube
from PcMods.com 4" blue kit.

Remove cube from enclosure & place as shown, remove 4 corner screws(Torx10).

Turn cube as shown, remove side screws on both sides.

Remove top cover and
disconnect the connector.

Note the orientation of connector when putting back together.

Remove side posts by pulling up, do the same for optical drive cover.

Here's what you get when
cover is removed.

Remove both optical drive screws from both sides. Then carefully remove drive.

Here's with optical drive removed. Hold drive by the corners ONLY.

Wiring time, cut both ends off the spade connectors, in order to bypass switch.

Butt connect together 2 ends.Or you could twist them together and tape them up

Reroute optical drive power connector under Airport card as shown.

Position the tube as shown with included velcro, avoid touching the fan bracket.

I didn't like these bare wires showing so I taped them up to avoid short cir...

Plug optical drive power connector into tube power supply connector.

Here's the mess of wires,
note wire routing.

Install optical drive carefully, note the cable routing.

Position excess cable as shown and resecure the optical drive screws.

Pull excess out and fold up against the optical drive, see next picture.

Like so, then carefully reintstall the optical drive cover.

Avoid pinching the cables when putting cover on,should look like this.

Position power cables back into cube chassis.

Here's what the mess looks like from above.

Position power supply box as shown snug fit against the drive. Velcro not needed

Put it all back together and hopefully you'll have this. And not smoke! :)

Only so much text is allowed under the pics, so here's some more info.

There is a hint of purple. Pictures are very hard to take with digital camera.

I bypassed the on/off switch but one can be used. It would have to run outside..

..and hang somewhere outside. The light does go out when put to sleep..

..or turned off. Looks MUCH better in person, camera makes it look kinda harsh.
