 The Black & Decker RTX-6 3 Speed arrived in a colorful well illustrated box. The kit contains the rotary tool, a very nice storage/carrying case, and a collate wrench. Also included are cutoff wheels and sanding bands with a drum, and several other commonly used bits; so you can start using your tool right away!
The first thing you notice about the tool is that it is well balanced and feels good in your hand. It has soft rubber grips in the contact points making it very comfortable to hold. The variable speed setting has three positions: Low, Medium and High. This allows for setting the speed to match the bit being used. 
I was particularly impressed with the collet locking method used on the tool. A lever works in conjunction with the power switch to lock the collet. The power switch has to be moved to off for the collet locking lever to move. Conversely, the collet lock must be disengaged for the power switch to function. This makes for a very safe arrangement for changing bits. 
Speed can be adjusted on the fly, and the unit is very powerful. Even while spinning a large composite cutoff wheel the unit did not bog down when I test cut a nail. The speed adjustment allowed me to cut small pieces of oak at a lower speed which lessened the tendency to burn instead of cut.

And always where safety glasses when using any power tool. This tool is available at Walmart, KMart, Home Depot, and other hardware stores. The roughly $30.00 street price makes this a great bargain and a fine alternative to the name brand rotary tool.

Ah the venerable rotary tool, What modder hasn't used one? Or wished they had one? It is quite possibly the most versatile tool that should be in your toolbox. A rotary tool can: drill, grind, polish, cut, rout, ream, sand and saw. And I am sure you the modders, have used them for things I can't possibly imagine.
