This mod was found at http://thomas.perrier.name. Read on to find out how to overclock a number of ATI graphics cards. The author says, "ATIccelerator comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. If you destroy your costly 9800 Pro or your now worthless Rage 128 because of a bug in this program or your careless utilisation of it, you're on your own!
ATIccelerator
This tool can do two related things:
- Display and modify core and memory frequencies stored in a flashing utility (ATI Multi Flasher). This flashing utility only runs on Mac OS 9 (not Classic). People who have a Mac which can't boot OS 9, but have access to a PC, can use the second mode.
- Display and modify core and memory frequencies stored in a ROM. This ROM will then have to be flashed using a PC with the flashrom DOS utility (real DOS, not Windows command prompt). flashrom is available here.
Requirements
- A Java 1.4 (Mac OS X 10.3) or 1.3 (Windows and other systems) virtual machine
- Not a requirement of the tool per se, but a Mac OS 9 boot capable Power Mac or a DOS PC is necessary to flash the modified ROM.
Supported ROMs
Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition, rev 114
Radeon 9800 Pro OEM, rev 117
Radeon 9700 Pro OEM, rev 119 and 124
Radeon 9600 Pro OEM, rev 126
Radeon 9100, underground hacked ROM (only supported by my older ATI OC Tool 0.9)
Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition, rev 107 and 112
Radeon 9000 Pro OEM, rev 122, 127 and 131
Radeon 8500 Pro Mac Edition, rev 123 and 126
Radeon 7500 OEM, rev 222
Radeon 7000 Mac Edition, rev 119 and 208
Radeon 7000 OEM, rev 109
Radeon Mac Edition, rev 106, 119 (two variants), 124 and 126
Radeon OEM, rev 119
Rage 128 Pro OEM, rev 108, 125 and 130
Nexus 128, rev 103
Xclaim VR 128, rev 108
Rage 128 OEM, rev 108, 116 and 204
If you have one of the above cards, but with a different revision (last three digits of the ROM revision given by ATI Displays or System Profiler), please send me the two files produced by ATI Multi Dumper.
Also, I'm still looking for other retail Rage 128 cards ROMs (Rage Orion), and why not also Rage Pro cards (Nexus GA, Xclaim 3D and 3D Plus, Xclaim VR). So anyone willing to help, just send me the two files produced by ATI Multi Dumper (only works under Mac OS 9), and I'll quickly add support. Please note that onboard graphics cards (iMacs, eMacs, PowerBooks, iBooks) are not supported by the dumper tool.
Usage
The flashing utility or ROM will be directly modified, so make sure you have a backup.
- If you don't already have your card's ROM, start in Mac OS 9 and use ATI Multi Dumper to extract the ROM (or install the card in a DOS PC and use flashrom -s 0 ROM_file_name 128 to save it)
- Restart in OS X and launch ATIccelerator (or restart in Windows and launch ATIccelerator.jar)
- Click on Open Flasher and choose the flashing utility (ATI Multi Flasher). It comes empty, so the first time ATIccelerator will ask for a ROM to store in it: select the ROM file from step 1. (Or click on Open ROM and select one, if you won't use the Mac flasher.)
- Current frequencies are displayed (provided the card and ROM revision are known). Change core, memory, or both frequencies to reasonable values (the software won't prevent you from entering 800 MHz!);
- Save
- Restart in Mac OS 9 and launch ATI Multi Flasher; if your Mac has multiple ATI cards, before clicking Yes, verify the right one will be flashed! (Or use the flashrom -pm 0 ROM_file_name -f DOS command).
Have fun :o)

FAQ
Q: I have a problem with ATI Multi Flasher or ATI Multi Dumper, can you help me?
A: Unfortunately, probably no, because I didn't write these tools.
Q: How far can I go?
A: I can't say, all cards are different. Gradually up frequencies (preferably not both frequencies at the same time) until artifacts appear on screen (especially while playing games), or you reach the limits of your courage.
Q: Can I fry my card?
A: Unlikely if you remain reasonable, but not impossible: zero risk doesn't exist!
