Home-Made iPod Mic (Linux)
Written by Scott Mitchell

This is a small mic designed for use with iPodLinux. I’ve used it to record lectures with quite good results.
The mic is built into a 2 x AAA battery holder.
I wanted this to be quite self-contained so I chose a right-angled audio connector and slotted it directly into the battery case.
The circuit is based on a single transistor and runs of one AAA battery, the other battery space is used for the circuit.
The silver knob on the right controls volume and I used the switch on the battery box to turn the mic on and off.
The mic swivels in the headphone jack so it can be used either vertically or horizontally. When it’s horizontal the volume knob acts as a second leg.
