fd800raid-n-card.jpgLAS VEGAS, NV— April 16, 2007—NAB 2007— Sonnet Technologies, a leader in upgrades for Macintosh® computers, announces 3 new SATA/RAID solutionss. First, the desktop Fusion D400Q, and the 1U rackmount Fusion R400Q SATA storage systems. Each is equipped with four swappable hard drive modules providing a total of 2 or 3 TB of storage. These storage systems offer unparalleled performance and flexibility, connectable to virtually any computer via any one of four industry-standard interfaces–eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, or USB 2.0. Secondly, Fusion D500P desktop SATA storage system with port multiplier, equipped with five swappable hard drive modules providing a total of 2.5 or 3.75TB of storage.

These storage systems offer unparalleled direct-connect performance for SATA II drives. lastly, the Sonnet Fusion™ D800RAID 8-drive and Fusion D400RAID 4-drive Serial ATA disk array storage systems, designed for use in film and video editing, and professional broadcast applications. Each Fusion D800RAID and D400RAID system boasts a powerful PCI Express® RAID host adapter that supports RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 10, 50, and JBOD configurations, a quiet enclosure that contains hot-swappable drive modules equipped with Enterprise/RAID edition SATA drives, and robust locking cables.

Fusion D400Q and R400Q
Fusion D400Q and R400Q storage systems provide flexibility without compromise. Connected to a computer with a single eSATA cable, the four drives can be accessed at maximum speed. Connected via a single FireWire 800, FireWire 400, or USB cable, all four drives can be accessed at the full speed of the respective interface. There is no need to reformat when changing from one interface to another, whether configured as RAID 0, 1, 10, or JBOD.

Connected to a Sonnet Tempo SATA E4P PCIe or X4P PCI-X adapter installed in a Mac or Windows computer, a Fusion 400Q system can operate at maximum speed. Through its eSATA connection, a single Fusion 400Q achieves 200MB/sec as a RAID 0 striped set, fast enough to support multiple streams of DV, HDV, DVCPRO, or uncompressed 8-bit 1080HD video. Up to four Fusion 400Qs can be ganged on a Tempo SATA E4P or X4P for double, triple, or even quadruple the performance. Fusion systems are compatible with Apple® Final Cut Pro® and Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS3 video editing software, and video capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design, Matrox and Bluefish444.

Fusion storage systems employ Enterprise/RAID Edition hard drives. These drives are subjected to hours of additional testing to check for soft errors, vibration, and other reliability predictors. Only the sturdiest drives pass these tests, and then are prepared with special RAID-optimized firmware, and become the building blocks of a super-reliable Fusion storage system. For added convenience and security, Fusion storage systems’ swappable drive modules are compatible across Sonnet’s Fusion line.

The Fusion D400Q system enclosure integrates an ultra-quiet, swappable fan module. This fan is 80% quieter than a standard case fan, making this enclosure perfectly suited for use in noise-sensitive environments.

The Fusion R400Q system is ideal for building portable audio/video editing systems. At only 13.5" deep, the 1U rackmount Fusion R400Q enclosure fits into shallow portable racks, such as the popular Gator™ rack.

Fusion D800RAID and Fusion D400RAID

Fusion RAID storage systems are designed for work environments where performance and fault tolerance are critical. A Fusion D800RAID system configured as a RAID 4 (7 drives striped + 1 parity drive) can achieve 340MB/sec (AJA Kona 1080HD test), fast enough to handle uncompressed 10-bit 1080 HD, or multiple streams of DV, HDV, DVCPRO, and uncompressed SD video. Configured as a RAID 0, the Fusion D800RAID will handle one stream of 2K (2048 x 1556) video. A similarly configured D400RAID (RAID 4) can achieve 160MB/sec (AJA Kona 1080HD test), fast enough to support 10-bit 720HD, as well as multiple streams of DV, HDV, DVCPRO, and uncompressed SD video. Fusion RAID systems offer fail-safe protection in the event of a drive failure—a drive can be swapped out and the RAID rebuilt in 2 or 3 hours (4 or 6TB configurations, respectively), or the user can choose to continue to work at reduced bandwidth while the RAID rebuilds in the background.

The Sonnet PCI Express RAID host adapter, based on the latest-generation Intel® 348 RAID processor and complemented by 256MB of onboard ECC-protected RAM, is powered by ATTO RAID technology. This RAID 4 implementation includes the ATTO Advanced Data Streaming (ADSTM) Technology, a feature that maximizes the number of concurrent video streams while protecting content in case of a drive’s failure. The included software utilities provide user-extensive control of the Fusion RAID system’s configuration. Connections between host and enclosure are simplified through the use of one or two reliable four-lane cables.

Fusion RAID systems employ Enterprise/RAID Edition hard drives. These drives are subjected to hours of additional testing to check for soft errors, vibration, and other reliability predictors. Only the sturdiest drives pass these tests, and then are prepared with special RAID-optimized firmware, and become the building blocks of a super-reliable Fusion RAID system. For added convenience and security, Fusion RAID systems’ swappable drive modules are compatible across Sonnet’s Fusion line.

These Fusion RAID system enclosures integrate an ultra-quiet, swappable fan module. This fan is 80% quieter than a standard case fan, making these Fusion enclosures perfectly suited for use in noise-sensitive environments.

Fusion D800RAID and D400RAID storage systems are Sonnet’s best performing storage solutions to date. “Our Fusion RAID line delivers the additional performance, fault tolerance, and reliability our professional customers demand,” states Robert Farnsworth, Sonnet CEO. “These attributes, along with broad software and hardware compatibility, make Fusion RAID systems a perfect choice for a variety of workflows.” “Sonnet’s Fusion RAID solutions, in conjunction with ATTO RAID technology, offer digital content creation customers storage solutions that match the ever-growing performance requirements driven by the explosion in HD workflows,” adds Timothy Klein, president and CEO, ATTO Technology. “Today customers have mixed environments–operating systems, editing applications and output demands–that require the flexibility and interoperability of Fusion RAID products.” Fusion RAID systems support Mac OS® X, Windows® XP, Windows Vista, and Linux. They are compatible with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design, Matrox, and Bluefish444, and work with all mainstream video editing applications including Apple® Final Cut Pro® and Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS3.
