Free Storage in the Cloud
Written by Jacob Thomason
Ok, so, this isn't exactly a mod, but I couldn't help but share this great little gem with everyone out there. Some of you may be familiar with a web startup incubator called yCombinator. Well, one of their projects that recently came through, Dropbox, is really starting to grab a little attention. They have been around for a little bit now, but just starting to catch on big.Dropbox is virtual storage that sits on their servers and allows you to access it from any of your Macs. This is great for sharing your files with all your systems, or with others in your organization, using the public storage component of it. Now, they aren't the first to do such a thing, there are others out there doing something similar, but the functionality of their offering is great. I haven't truly been able to dive through all the features, tricks and mods of the software just yet, but they have a great forum and wiki for many ways of syncing systems, updating your Dropbox and using even multiple Dropboxes for complete organization.
Dropbox is compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux (there is even CLI support)
It's definitely worth a look. P.S. Yes it's the dirty truth, there is a referral link in the URL. We're not getting paid anything. I would just like a little extra free storage. So, please keep it there if you don't mind. ;) (If you do, you'll actually get an extra 0.25 GB free on top of the standard 2 GB!)
