We'd like to give a salute to Jon Frisby of MrJoy, Inc. MrJoy and Freeverse have donated over 20,000 copies of Hordes of Orcs to the US Armed Services through Games For Soldiers (gamesforsoldiers.org). Never heard of Hordes of Orcs? It's awesome, but I might be a little biased. I love tower defense games. If you haven't heard of the tower defense game genre, here's a primer. You have a series of bad guys trying to get across your screen. The only thing blocking them is towers you can build and upgrade. Simple, yes. Fun, heck yeah.Read on for more info & links.
So Jon Frisby (mrjoy.com) and Freeverse have a pretty good cross-platform desktop tower defense game. It is unique in that most of the tower defense games are flash based on websites like kongregate (kongregate.com). Hordes of Orcs though is a downloadable, high graphics 3D tower defense game. If you like tower defense games, give Hordes of Orcs a try. You can get a free download at mrjoy.com/games/7.
Jon Firsby was also the featured guest on the last MacMod:LIVE podcast. Discussing the development of Hordes of Orcs, indie software development, and last week's new upgrades from Apple with Big-O and the JoshMeister. Download and/or subscribe to the ModCast on iTunes, and join in every Thursday at 10pm Eastern Time (7pm West Coast/Pacific) on TalkShoe.
